Imphal, November 28 2012:
Claiming that some questions posed to candidates in the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) conducted on November 27 had wrong answer keys, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) demanded an immediate clarification from the Government of Manipur.
Speaking to newspersons at its office today, DESAM general secretary Arambam Thoithoi pointed out that Ques No 67 for paper I asked the candidates what the remaining portion/size would be if a girl cuts 12 pieces of 1m x 5 cm each from a ribbon of 14 m x 35 cms.
Even though the correct answer should be 1 m x 75 cms the answer keys given for the said question were (a) 1 m 65 cms (b) 2 m 25 cms (c) 1 m 25 cms (d) 2 m 65 cms, mentioned the secretary.
With regard to Question Number 74 (2 1/2 + 1 1/2 of 2/7 1 1/2) the answers keys hinted at (a) 0 (b) 1/2 (c) 3/4 (d) 1/2 contrary to 2 being the correct answer, maintained Thoithoi while insisting that as Education Department had erred in preparing the questions all the candidates should be given grace marks.
Not ruling out similar erroneous questions asked in the TET examination and asserting that DESAM would investigate further into the matter, he also demanded that the Government of Manipur constitute an investigation team for further probe as it concerns careers of teacher aspirants.
Taking serious note of incompetency on the part of the question setters, Thoithoi suggested that the Education Department weed out such elements as their presence amounts to undermining efforts to promote quality education in Manipur.
DESAM assistant general secretary P premchandra was also present at the media briefing.
