Imphal, May 26 2012:
Close of the heels of the people, particularly the student community, demanding that the controversial death of architecture student Loitam Richard at Bangalore be handed over to the CBI for investigation, Trinamool Congress affirmed that the political organisation will leave no stone unturned to fulfil the people's demand.
Speaking to newspersons here today, Trinamool MP and Manipur in-charge KD Singh assured that the party would contribute its mite to get the demand fulfilled.
"We will extend our highest possible level to get Loitam's case probed by the CBI," KD Singh said this afternoon while also taking grim note of alleged racial profiling of people from the North Eastern region in other parts of India.
On the alleged racial outlook towards the north east people by mainland Indians, he said the party will also work to erase such mindset to ensure the multi-ethnic people of the whole country respect each other.
A resident of Uripok, Richard was found dead in his hostel bed on April 18 with reports suggesting that thrashing by senior students of Acharya NRV School of Architecture in Bangalore the previous night caused the demise of Richard.
With regard to politics, the TC leader said winning of seven seats by the party in the recently held state assembly polls was a remarkable victory.
While the ruling Congress bagged 42 seats out of the total of 60 in the Manipur Legislative assembly, Trinamool Congress became the second largest successful party to hold the opposition leader's seat in the house.
The MP also confided that he arrived in Manipur in connection with the forthcoming Panchayat election in the state and expressed confidence that Trinamool candidates would fare well in the elections to the local bodies.
Reacting on the steep hike in price of petrol, he said his party, while strongly opposing the hike would continue to exert pressure to the centre for a roll back .
Prior to the media conference, a meeting of the party was convened during which state unit TC leaders urged KD Singh to send their national leaders including Union ministers to Manipur at least twice in a month to strengthen the party base ahead of the Panchayat election likely to be held in September.
