Yamthong scans sites for solar lighting

With a view to provide reasonable supply of electricity to the people of Saikul area, MLA Yamthong Haokip today inspected practicable areas under Saikul A/C for installation of solar street lamps.
The MLA was accompanied by LP Golmei, Member Secretary, MINERADA and Director Manglem.
The MLA and his team were given a warm welcome by volunteers of Kuki Students' Organisation and the village Chiefs of Saikul area.
Speaking at the function, MLA Yamthong Haokip pointed out that almost all the roads and bridges constructed in Saikul area are not upto the mark.
Apart from this, the people of the area suffer from acute shortage of water and electricity.
So, he along with the officials of MANIREDA has come to inspect areas where solar lamps could be installed.

This is the first step towards ensuring sufficient power to the people of the area and gradually, all the villages in Saikul area would be lit up by solar lamps, he added.
Member Secretary of MINERADA LP Golmei noted that Saikul has lot of potentials for development.
The problem of water scarcity faced by the people of this area could be solved through drawing up underground water.
For this purpose, solar panel would be required.
So, in order to put this system into practice, public need to extend their co-operation to MANIREDA.
Manglem, Director of MANIREDA informed that MANIREDA has been taking up the work of installing solar lamps in the hill areas of the state under the guidelines of the state government.
Under the initiative, project proposal for installing 100 solar lamps along the streets of Saikul has been forwarded to Delhi. A number of memorandums were also submitted to the MLA by the village Chiefs, social workers and KSO on the occasion.
