Lamka, December 22 2012:
At least 12 people were injured while trying to douse a fire inside the campus of Kim Joe Gas agency, as one domestic LPG cylinder that was used by the agency's proprietor exploded today.
Fire struck Lienhmingthang's residence at around 4.15 pm today.
Family members suspected that oil droplets left-behind during a refill may have ignited the fire after it came into contact with a Meiphu.
A good quantity of household items located both on the ground and first floor of the building have been charred though a huge crowd along with the fire department managed to control the fire from spreading into its adjoining building and the LPG stocks that was located few meters away.
Among the injured are three seriously burnt volunteers who were among the first to rush inside the building in trying to douse the flame.
At least nine other also suffered burnt both on their faces and hands.
One of the injured barely manages to say that an exploding cylinder has thrown them all to the ground as they were struggling to control the fire, before he was whisked away by nurses for treatment.
Local MLA and minister Health Phungzathang along with a handful of MDCs has reached the spot even as fire department and the local volunteers were struggling to contain the fire.
