Children across State get pulse polio drops

As the Nation celebrated National Immunization Day 2020, children across the State got pulse polio drops Sunday.
Polio camps were opened across the districts.
Here are the highlights of the camps that were organised Sunday:
Senapati: In support of the World Health Organization's call to consider Polio immunization as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) for three months, District Family Welfare, Senapati, in collaboration with District Health Society launched an Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization at Senapati DHQ today.
The immunization movement launched by Krishna Kumar SDO, Senapati DHQ in the presence of Dr H Loli, CMO; Elizabeth RK, DP, DHS, Senapati; Dr Sokha-a, DIO Senapati, along with children and parents will continue till January 21 .
Polio was declared as PHEIC in 2014 and has continued to remain one since then.
There were 156 cases of wild polio type-1 cases in 2019 compared with 28 in 2018 .
Thoubal: The District Health Society Thoubal and District Family Welfare Office, under the National Health Mission, launched Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization 2020 at the Thoubal district Deputy Commissioner's quarter.
Deputy Commissioner N Bandana Devi launched the campaign that will continue till January 21.Children under the age of five were given polio drops at the campaign which was launched under the theme "Let the victory over Polio continue with two drops of life" .
The campaign is targeting to cover around 34,105 children in the district.
Last year, the pulse polio immunization campaign covered around 33,767 children under the age of five, said the Deputy Commissioner on the sideline of the event.
A total of 325 polio booth are opened in the district to cover maximum number of children.
66 supervisors and hundreds of staff are managing the booths, she said.
January 21 is observed as Booth Day and polio booths are opened at different localities to reach nook and corner of the districts, she added.
House to house campaign will take place on January 20 and 21 to make sure no children are left behind, she added urging and advising the people, especially parents and guardian to get their children immunized against polio.
Chief Medical Officer Thoubal Dr N Jayantakumar, District Family Welfare Officer Thoubal Dr Ksh Memcha Devi, District Health Society Thoubal Program Manager Ch Basanta and officials attended the camp.
Tengnoupal: In Tengnoupal district, Primary Health Centre Moreh also organised polio immunization camp under the aegis of Health and Family Welfare Services.
Irengbam Dinesh Kumar, SDO Moreh; Dr Kh Gojen, DIO Tengnoupal; Kh Robinson, ASP Moreh Police; Dr Kh Santikumar, M/O in-charge PHC Moreh and many other officials and staff of the health centre attended the immunization programme.
At the event, Dr Santikumar said that the programme is aiming to cover around 2,181 children under the age of five in the border town and adjoining areas.
Jiribam: Polio immunization camp was also held today at Jiribam.
Altogether 61 booths were opened and administered police drops to over 4020 children below the age of five.
