Endorsing the demand of the Minorities Development Forum of Manipur in demanding a Muslim cabinet minister's berth in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the Manipuri Muslims Online Forum, a forum of progressive Manipuri Muslim professionals and students has urged the 10th Assembly to consider a Muslim cabinet minister in health, roads and transport, sports or rural affairs.
A statement issued by the administrator of the MMOF, a facebook group of the Manipuri Muslim professionals and students, observed that the three Manipuri Muslims who returned to the 10th Manipur Assembly are forward thinking, middle-aged with a zeal for bringing constructive changes in the socio-economic condition of the State.
It stated that inspite of the Congress party's commitment and impartial execution of welfare initiatives in Manipur, Muslims and Muslims dominated constituencies lack in potable water, sanitation, roads, flood-proof river banks, education, sports and socio-economic condition remain largely below average.
It added that implementation of certain development and social welfare programmes such as MGNREGA and others is not upto the mark, hence the demand to for the inclusion of a Muslim in the cabinet.
