Imphal, March 08 2020:
The 10th death anniversary of the first president of BJP Manipur State unit, late Laimayum Raghumani Sharma, was observed at the party office at Canchipur today.
Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda, BJP leaders and family members paid floral tributes to the photo of the deceased as a part of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, K Bhabananda said that Raghumani was a BJP and RSS leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the Manipuri people.
Lamenting that fact that the death anniversary was not properly observed in the past, the MP said that there is no greater good than serving the people.
On the other hand, former president of BJP Manipur State unit, Meinam Bhorot praised late Raghumani and narrated that he (Raghumani) contributed greatly for RSS and BJP since the early days when people used to find the Khaki pants and white shirt of the RSS amusing.
He joined RSS and BJP because of his desire to bring positive change for Manipur, Bhorot said, adding that even though he was a Brahmin, Raghumani did not differentiate people based on caste and instead worked for collective development.
Bhorot further praised Raghumani and narrated that during the time of the emergency, in June 1975, Raghumani was one among the leaders of various political parties who were arrested by the Indian Government.
Raghumani spent two gruelling years in jail, he concluded.
