The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today submitted progress report of its investigation into July 23, 2009 Khwairamband Bazar shooting case involving police commandos that claimed life of two people and injure to five other in the court of Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench.
CBI is also likely to submit the charge-sheet of the case within the next six weak, informed the court while submitting the progress report to the court in compliance with the directive of the court passed on July 9 last.
The CBI started investigation into the two cases registered by the agency, RC.1(S)/2010.IMPH corresponding to FIR no.82(8)/2009 of City Police Station under section 302/34 IPC and Section 27(3) Arms Act and RC.2(S)/2010 corresponding to FIR no.75(7)/2009 of City PS under Section 302/326/307/506 IPC section 17/20 UA (P) A Act and Section 25 (1B) Arms Act.
As per the report submitted by DSP L Hangsing of CBI/ACB, Imphal with the consent of the Chief Investigative officer RR Sahay of the agency through the special counsel of the KL John to the court of the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench comprising judges Justice Takyenjam Nandakumar and Justice K Meruna.
With the assurance of the CBI counsel to submit the charge-sheet of the case within the next six weak, the court announced that the hearing of the case will be listed after six weeks for further proceedings.
In the report of the CBI, it was mentioned that CBI, during investigation examined more than 200 witnesses including street vendors, shop keepers, doctors, police officers, photographers, press and media persons and also examined many commandos of the Imphal west district.
Documents numbering 150 including photographs/video clips related to the incident, soft and hard copies of the photographs which appeared in the Tahelka issue dated August 8, 2009 were seized by the CBI and same were forensically got examined.
Opinions of some experts have been received and some reports are still awaited, the CBI said.
The progress report, it is clear case of the CBI that there are sufficient material for submitting charge sheet, said the CBI counsel in the court adding that the same may be submitted with six weeks for today.
