Imphal, August 03 2010:
Ten National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGs) workers of Chanam Sandrok Gram Panchayat today lodged a joint complaint to the District Programme Co-ordinator, NREGS who is also the DC of Imphal East against the Pradhan and members of Chanam Sandrok Gram Panchayat for their illegal possession of Post Office Passbooks and their intention to withdraw the wages of NREGS workers by obtaining signature on blank withdrawal slips.
The said Pradhan and members on earlier occasions had disbursed the wages to the workers directly after withdrawing the amount from the Post Office concerned.
However, the amount of money they had disbursed is quite less than the actual amount of money to be given for the work executed by them.
The Post Office Pass Books of the complainants are presently in the custody of the Pradhan and the members and as such they do not know their respective account number and wages remitted to their respective accounts.
The complainants have reasonable apprehension that the Pradhan and the members are going to disburse the wages to them after deducting certain amount of money as done earlier.
The NREGS workers requested the District Programme Co-ordinator to inquire into the matter promptly, to punish the errant Pradhan and members in accordance with the provision of Section 25 of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 and also to allow them to withdraw their wages from the concerned Post Office directly after getting their Pass Books from the Pradhan and the members.
