"People of 18 villages inhabiting in Maring range in the Myanmar border of Chandel Distict which is under malaria zone area has been left exposed to vulnerability of mosquito borne diseases as till date government has not taken any measures to prevent mosquito borne diseases in the area, two person died in July allegedly due to malaria in the region", said Spokesperson, Eastern Maring Students' Union, while interacting with media person who visited the area yesterday.
It is learnt that under Government of Manipur various steps to prevent spread of mosquito borne diseases like treatment of mosquito nets with chemical repellant, fogging to eliminate mosquitoes are carried out in Moreh area, the measures has never reached Tengnoupal, Sita, Saibol and other interior malaria prone region bordering Myanmar.
The areas which have about 10 thousand populations are frequently affected by Malaria epidemic spread from neibouring country Myanmar.
In this year on July 8, a relative of MLA Morung Makunga , K H Tosil hailing from Kharou Khunnou succumbed at Langol View hospital, Imphal when she was brought to the hospital for treatment, on the next day another person died due to malaria and it is learnt that around 60 percent of the population are suspected to be suffering from mosquito bite related diseases in the area.
It was also found that two doctors posted in two PHMC in the area never attend the health centers, two nurses for the area turned up once in a month, in case of emergency villagers had to carry the ailing person by foot on hand made carrier upto Sita, the negligence of the health facility provisions in the area has caused untold hardship to villagers for which he appealed for government attention at earliest.
The absence of infrastructures and teachers in the primary schools has rendered a government primary school defunct and children of the area are totally deprived of education facility.
Children could not get any facility under various schemes of Government, he disclosed.
He also mentioned that the area was deprived of electricity for the last 7 years, due to inaccessible road condition in the area many produces are left rotten on the ground.
The villagers were yearning for government intervention to ease their hardships.
