All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) appealed to authorities concerned to look after the deplorable condition of Community Health Centre (CHC) of Heirok at the earliest and provide all the necessary equipment for its smooth and efficient functioning.
In a press release, AMSU Headquarters informed that a team of AMSU Thoubal District Committee paid an inspection visit at the CHC Heirok as a part of various measures taken up by AMSU to combat COVID-19 pandemic effectively.
During this visit, it was found that there was no proper technical equipment and adequate staff that a CHC should have.
The student body maintained that the CHC has been catering to the medical needs of locals of not only Heirok but Thamlai, Inganglok, Maralel, Salungpham, Thabi Keithel etc however all the activities of the CHC is on hold at the moment since all the staff have been utilised for mass Covid vaccination programmes taken up the Government to protect the people from COVID-19 and to curb its further spread.
Such a situation has caused a lot of inconveniences to the locals whenever an emergency case arises, added the statement.
The normal regular check ups for many pregnant women of the area have been stopped causing anxiety and concern to many.
Above all these the temporary building of the CHC of Heirok is in a bad shape which was built to conduct the regular activities of the CHC since its main building was demolished by the current MLA of Heirok AC in April 2018 on the basis that a new building will be constructed.
AMSU further stated that various complaints have been made to authorities concerned and the local MLA regarding the condition of CHC Heirok earlier however no necessary measures have been taken up till date which is really unfortunate.
