Imphal, May 06:
In protest against the alleged failure of the Imphal Municipal Council to remove the garbage thereby causing health hazards to many, women vendors of Nagamapal area today blocked the road by piling up the garbage.
Since early morning today, the women vendors piled up the garbage heaps at the RIMS Road turning point preventing movement of vehicular traffic and pedestrians along the Nagamapal road.
At around 10 am, personnel of Imphal City Police came and set on fire the garbage pile.
With the use of loud speaker, the police personnel also called on the agitating women folk to prevail upon the UGs who have allegedly locked up the office building of the Imphal Municipal Council thus leading to the present deadlock.
Later on the remnants of the burnt garbage were pushed on the road side and doused by the Fire Brigade personnel.
