Imphal, September 03 2022:
The five MLAs who quit Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and joined BJP yesterday were accord-ed a warm reception by Chief Minister N Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh presi-dent A Sarda at Manipur Bhavan, Delhi today.
The five JD-U MLAs who have joined BJP are Khumukcham Joykisan (Thangmeiband AC), Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipai-mukh AC), Md Achab Uddin (Jiribam AC), Thangjam Arunkumar (Wangkhei AC) and LM Khaute (Churachandpur AC) .
Speaking at the reception ceremony, Chief Minister N Biren said that the five MLAs have demonstrated their faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National president JP Nadda by joining BJP.
Notably, the Assembly Secretariat issued a bulletin yesterday which said that the entry of the five MLAs into BJP after quitting JD-U does not violate the 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
JD-U won six seats in the last State Assembly election.
As five of them have joined BJP, the party has now only one MLA in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Md Abdul Nasir (Lilong AC) is now the lone JD-U MLA in the State.
N Biren stated that all the five MLAs have been supporting BJP since a few years back.
By joining BJP formally, the five MLAs have shown their faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National president JP Nadda, Biren said.
Together with Chief Minister N Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sardar, the five MLAs are now awaiting JP Nadda's return to Delhi from Haryana.
Another reception function would be organised in honour of the five MLAs once JP Nadda reaches Delhi, sources informed.
Meanwhile, JD-U State unit president Ksh Biren is currently attending a national executive meeting of JD-U at Patna.
The National executive meeting would deliberate on how the five MLAs deserted the party and joined BJP.
The meeting is also likely to explore the course of action that may taken up against the five deserters.
