Persisting with its noble endeavour of supplementing earning source of local women folk the 88 Bn Border Security Force today gifted 'welfare centre for women' under its ongoing civic action programme at Heirok areas today.
As a part of the inaugural programme of the two 'welfare centre for women' at Heirok Pt-II and III the BSF authorities also handed over five sewing machines each.
The two centres were inaugurated by Mrs Radha Kapoor w/o Sham Kapoor who is the Commandant of 88 Bn BSF.
In a gesture reminiscent of conveying gratitude for the BSF's determination to help the locals in their day to day struggle for economic sustenance, local artistes presented colourful cultural programmes on the occasion.
Speaking at the well-gathered inauguration function held at Heirok Part-II School Ground, sham Kapoor categorically underlined that sole objective of setting up BSF camps/posts in the vicinity of civilian habitation is to protect life and property of the people, build trust and goodwill, as well as contribute towards restoration of peace and tranquillity in the state.
With apparent reference to the recent incident of two young girls and a boy falling to bullets of disruptive elements, the Commandant conveying his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families also affirmed that it would be the utmost priority of the BSF personnel to safeguard the people from adversary forces.
He also appealed to the Heirok citizens to extend cooperation to enable the BSF serve the people while informing that BSF is nurturing plans to provide computer sets for the Heirok youths, organise free medical camps and other welfare schemes in the near future.
With the inauguration of the Heirok centres the number of such facilities provided by the BSF in the past two weeks has gone up to five.
The civilians on their part expressed that establishment of the BSF unit in Heirok has been able to curb activities of UGs to a considerable degree.
On the otherhand, the 193 Bn BSF distributed 10 sewing machines and one colour television set to 10 embroidery centres and one youth club of Moirang area today.
Officiating Commandant of 193 Bn BSF Avtar Singh Shahi gracing the function as the chief guest stressed on the need to promote cordial relationship between the security forces and the people besides assuring continued assistance and cooperation from the BSF for overall welfare of the civilian population.
presentation of cultural items and exchange of gifts were the other highlight of the programme which was well attended by the local populace.
The BSF has so far handed over 50 sewing machines and five colour TVs to the people of Kumbi, Khwairakpam, Ithai, Phubala and Moirang areas of Bishnupur district this year.
Moreover, the Battalion had also organised free medical camp at the Moirang INA Complex in addition to providing sports materials to various educational institutions of the district.
