Imphal, March 31:
Reacting sharply to the statement of Chief Minister that the Imphal airport expansion move is in the interest of the people, the JAC Against Acquisition of Land for Expansion and Extension of Imphal Airport has accused the Chief Minister of being anti-people and lacking any concern for the interest of the public.
An emergency meeting of the JAC even demanded resignation of the Chief Minister.
Challenging the statement of the Chief Minister that the airport expansion move is in the interest of the people, the JAC demanded a white paper detailing possible benefits that the common people may reap from an enlarged airport.
How many unemployed youths can be provided jobs ? Can an expanded airport ameliorate the economic condition of the State? Can the Government guarantee the airport expansion project will not flop as other projects taken up by the Government at Koirengei, Kakching etc which have all failed disastrously? asked the JAC.
Though the Chief Minister is claiming that airport expansion is for development, it is nothing but seeking contract works from the Centre.
At the best, it only means selling out land to companies like the Airport Authority of India, it alleged.
Asserting that any measure taken up by the Government would not change the resolution of the JAC and the people to fight unto last to protect their land and properties, it declared that they are ready to die for the cause.
It further warned all private vehicles and passenger vehicles to stay off roads during the 12 hour bandh called by the JAC within Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C tomorrow from 5 am.
