Official process for construction of a new road from Imphal to Tamenglong via Kangchup is almost complete.
The road whose total length is 103 Kms would be constructed with monetary assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Once the new road is constructed, it would be 45 Kms shorter than the existing Imphal-Tamenglong road.
Due process for construction of the new road including tender is nearing completion and its status was tabled before a Cabinet meeting yesterday, informed an official source.
The new road would be shorter by 45 Kms as compared to the existing Imphal -Khongsang-Tamenglong road which is 148 Kms long and it would be shorter than Imphal-Tamei-Tamenglong road (160 Kms) by 57 Kms.
A tripartite MoU was signed among the State Government, the Central Government and the ADB in March 2015 .
Although the work order is yet to be issued, all other official process has been completed.
Plans are also afoot to construct Imphal ring road and Wangjing-Heirok-Machi-Moreh road with monetary assistance from ADB, informed the official.
