Ex-president, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Andro Mandal and several other workers and members of the party have joined Congress party during a meeting held at Andro Machengpat's community hall today.
Later, they have removed the BJP flag hoisted at the residence of the ex-president during Assembly Election in 2017 and was replaced with INC flag.
The meeting was attended by ex-president, BJP Andro Mandal, Khunumayum Subol; vice-president, BJP Imphal East, Salam Juge; ex-pradhans, Nongbrang Timukhong GP, Nameirakpaim Nimai; Yambem GP, Md Soukat Ali; president, Upliftment Committee Andro AC, Alhaj Fakaruddin; INC member, Uma; social worker, Loitongbam Narendra (Shanti) and SM Roshan of BJP as presidium members.
Speaking at the meeting, Kh Subol stated that though he had worked to strengthen the base of BJP in Andro constituency tirelessly for many years, the party formed another committee after 2017 Election before completing his term without giving him any prior information.
Saying that the party's members ignored his complaint regarding the matter, Subol claimed that BJP is a power hungry political party which prefers only rich and powerful.
"Today, all the members of the executive committee who have worked with me have also quit BJP and joined Congress party to work efficiently for the welfare of the public", he added.
He also maintained that Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 is also one of the reason why they have decided to quit the saffron party.
