Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) organised "1st Manipur National Convention on Socialism" at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal today.

As per resolutions adopted in the convention, a National Committee of 100 members was formed.
The committee will hold its first meeting on April 13 to form district and zonal committees.
The 100 members were selected from around 300 units of organisations including Manipur Proletariat People's Democratic Union which endorse the idea and philosophy of Lamyanba Irabot.
Political classes for the 100 members of the National committee will be held in May, said a resolution of the convention.
Speaking at the event, Rinku Khumukcham, Editor Imphal Times talked about the economic disparity prevailing in Manipur today.
He identified it as one of the main reasons for the numerous issues and problems the State is facing.
Pointing out that people should be aware and conscious about the burning issues the State is facing, Rinku asserted that public who were vociferous about certain issues months ago are now silent when election comes.
"Lok Sabha elections are at the door, and this is the right time to be vociferous about the issues affecting us," he said urging the public to vote for the right candidate who will serve the people.
Secretary general of SSUM, Bushan Longjam, in his keynote address, said that the convention was held to impart and instil sense of equality based on socialist philosophy Lamyanba Irabot promoted.
"Celebrating birth anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot alone is not enough to bring about a just and peaceful society.
We should study and practise the ideas that were lead down by the leader," he said.
