ADC polls soon: CM

Chief Minister N Biren Singh today distributed vehicles to six Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) at a function held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
Altogether eighteen vehicles, three each to the ADCs of Chandel, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi (Sadar Hills), Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul, were distributed.
Speaking at the occasion, N Biren Singh stated that the vehicles were distributed to the ADCs keeping in view the importance of strengthening democracy at grassroots level and bring inclusive development in the State.
He also informed that the Government would try to conduct the ADC election as soon as possible.
Biren said that the Government has been taking sometime in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and the necessity to strictly abide by the prescribed SOP.
The Government has no intention for any one to get infected by COVID-19 on account of elections.
Nonetheless, as COVID-19 vaccine would be available within a short period, the Government would see that the ADC election is held as soon as possible, Biren said.
Regarding the dissolution of the incumbent ADCs and assignment of the respective Deputy Commissioners as care-taker Chairmen, the Chief Minister asserted that the same procedure was warranted by the Constitution.
To a query raised by media persons regarding Manipur University of Culture, the Chief Minister stated that graduates from JNMDA and those who have completed similar courses are eligible for post graduate courses in Manipur University of Culture.
There were certain controversies and confusion over admission for post graduate courses in Manipur University of Culture but the same would be resolved soon, he added.
It may be mentioned that the vehicles were procured by the Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills through Government-e-Marketplace (GeM).
Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Vungzagin Valte, Education, Fisheries and CADA Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen, MLAs, top civil officials and representatives of the ADCs attended the function.
