World Environment Day observed across State

The World Environment Day was observed today at different places across the State.
DESAM and All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association jointly organised World Environment Day today with the theme 'Zero tolerance for illegal trade' at Konthoujam Lairembi Masaikon.
President of Konthoujam Lairembi Chaokhat Thourang Marup, K Manao; secretary K Santi; adviser K Khomei; Asst prof of DMC Sciences Dr Sobita; National awardee Dr TB Singh of Oriental College; general secretary of AMRPSWA Laishram Joy and president of DESAM M Angamba attended the programme as the presidium members.
Winners of slogan competition held through Facebook and Whatsapp were presented prizes on the occasion.

DESAM and AMRPSWA have also planned environmental literacy campaign at schools in the coming days.
The Manipur State Bharat Scouts and Guides (MSBSG) and Zonal Education Office (Zone I) organised the World Environment Day on the theme 'Join the Race to Make the World a Better Place' at the office complex of ZEO (Zone I), Khoyathong today.
Rev Father PX Francis, vice-president of ALT (S) and Gopinath Maibam, ZEO (Zone I) attended as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Th Ibopishak Singh, State Chief Commissioner presided over the function.
Tree saplings were planted by Scout guides and office staff of ZEO.
Later, a social service was organised at the compound of ZEO (Zone I) and surrounding areas.
Similar programme was organised by 69 Bn CRPF today at its Mantripukhri headquarters spearheaded by unit Commandant SP Upadhyay in which about 500 saplings were planted in and around the campus.
The CO highlighted the importance of observing the day and exhorted all men to contribute to this noble cause of making this world a better place.
Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Lamphelpat also observed the World Environment Day on the theme 'Zero Tolerance in Illegal Wildlife Trade' at its office complex today with Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, MPCB chairman in the chair.
Over 200 saplings were planted on the occasion.
Tentha Educational & Sport Reformers Association (TESRA) and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal also joined the observance at Iyang Leima Ching Tentha Heibung by planting trees.
The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kakching Zonal Council and Pallel Unit Council jointly organised the World Environment Day at Kakching Hr Sec School today by planting trees under the leadership of DESAM, Thoubal District Council president Ksh Ajay Singh.
Similar observation was conducted by Imphal West Students' Club (IWSC), Khumbong by planting around 50 fruit bearing plants at the campus of the club and Khumbong Primary School today which was attended by Pradhan of Ngairangbam GP, ward members of the Panchayat and executive members of the Club, a statement issued by IWSC, Khumbong secretary informed.
Similar observation was conducted by Divisional Forest Office, Chandel at Kurkam village, Chandel district headquarters today under the theme 'Go Wild For Life" .
12 DHQ DCC's member TS Willingson, 13 Vumku DCC's member Kanlun Anal, FNRMEDC president PS Ngamnung and DFO, Chandel Gaithaolu Thaimei graced as the presidium members of the function.
In her keynote address, the DFO told that environment does not denotes only forest but all the things that exist in our surroundings too and in order to lead a healthy life, we need a clean, safe and pollution free environment.
As part of World Environment Day, Alliance for Development Alternatives- Manipur (ADAM), Kakching Educational Trust (KET), and Kakching Foundation jointly organised tree plantation programme under the theme 'Stop Deforestation, Save Environment, Save Angaan Ching Eco Park'.
Around 60 saplings were planted by more than 50 participants mainly on top of Angaan Ching, a statement issued by ADAM secretary informed.
Tayama Charitable Trust, Kakching also observed the World Environment Day today under the theme 'Fight Against the Illegal Trade in Wildlife'.
Around 10 saplings and a peepal tree were planted at Kakching Irum Ningthou Leikon and at Kakching Wairi Ibudhou Khamlangba temple, Kakching Khullen Ibudhou Khamlangba temple.
The All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) and Manipuri Science Society, Silchar jointly organised the World Environment Day at the office of AAMSU today by planting trees under the leadership of AAMSU president P Nilakanta.
Similar observation was conducted by Manipur Creative School, Kwakta Sabal Leikai, Bishnupur District today by planting trees at the school campus.
Red Shield Division celebrated World Environment Day with great zeal and spirit.
Various related programmes and tree plantation drives were undertaken at various parts of Manipur.
Noney Battalion and Churachandpur Battalion planted 200 saplings each in the respective unit areas.
Jwalamukhi Battalion organized environment awareness programme along with tree plantation drive in Khurkhul area.
N Khunou Battalion organised 'Save Our Environment' awareness campaign at Gaidimjang in Khoupum valley area with participation from local students.
Tamei Battalion carried out plantation drive in unit area and Hamei and Yangmei schools.
Tamenglong Battalion in conjunction with 'Rain Forest Club, Tamenglong' organised X-Country from Dailong to Tamenglong sports stadium.
Later an awareness programmed was held in the stadium in presence of DC Tamenglong M Luikham with the theme being 'Fight Against Illegal Trade in Wild Life'.
Various cultural and informative programmes were also conducted during the event, according to a statement issued by the PIB (DW), Imphal.
