Imphal, June 05 2016 :
The indefinite bandh imposed by the locals of Singjamei bazar and surrounding areas against levelling charges against JCILPS former convenor Khomdram Ratan affected normal life along Singjamei-Kongba road today.
Since early morning, large number of people including womenfolk blocked the road at different points.
All the shops along the road also remained closed during the indefinite bandh.
The bandh supporters burnt tyres and placed various kinds of object along the road to prevent movement of vehicles.
Security personnel of Imphal East and Imphal West were deployed at various places to prevent untoward incidents.
Although the bandh continued peacefully till evening, police fired several teargas shells to disperse the bandh supporters at night.
Bandh supporters alleged that one of the Singjamei police personnel used abusive words to women bandh supporters who were staging protest on Singjamei bridge.
The womenfolk demanded the police to bring out the police personnel and apologise them by 6 pm today.
Later, a heated argument broke out between police and bandh supporters.
From around 6.30 pm, police began firing several rounds of teargas shells and mock bombs to disperse the bandh supporters.
Bandh supporters also pelted stones and fired slingshot projectiles towards the police.
Tussle between bandh supporters and police continued till the time of filing this report.
Local sources said that four bandh supporters received minor injuries during the confrontation.
