Imphal, September 30 2013:
The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has summoned and fined M Kanamsin, Chairman of Bitiang (Laphok) Village Authority on September 28, following his press clarification published on September 23 on behalf of the 10th Assam Rifles.
According to a press release of ZYF (AMN), the clarification of Kanamsin refuted the ZYF's condemnation over the Assam Rifles' excessive acts perpetrated upon two innocent persons without any reason.
"It may be pertinent to mention that the said 10th AR presently posted at Lamdangmei Village picked up two innocent persons of Bitiang Village on August 31 at around 6 pm and held captive in their custody and released on September 2 at 10 am after subjecting them into different forms of torture", the release said.
It added, the two persons were physically tortured, electric shocked, harassment, burnt candle on their feet, hung upside down, bared clothes etc on the ground of questioning.
Information/statement extracted from the villagers who appeared at the ZYF summons were that, the 10th AR headed by one Captain Rohit has been persecuting the villagers since his posting at the said post.
He and his team conducted combing operation without the participation of police personnel around February and seized all the licensed gun and pump (air) guns, the release stated.
It also said, the taking into custody of Tanthailung Malangmei s/o Gaijanglung Malangmei and Phungangam Malangmei s/o Meihomlung Malangmei without informing their parents and village Chairman or elders is an act of unlawful/illegal detention and captivity.
