Health and Family welfare Minister, Ph Parijat, has announced that a nursing institute for pursuing ANM course would be set up in Ukhrul district very soon.
speaking as chief guest at the 38th Parents' meet function held yesterday at Thotchan Baptist English School, Kachai in Chingai Assembly Constituency, the Minister said as a part of the Government policy to ensure efficient functioning of PHSCs and PHCs located at remote hill areas, the ANM nursing institute is being planned.
Elaborating, Parijat stated that owing to necessity for posting/absorption of local medical personnel, especially nurses, so as to extend round the clock benefits to the needy patients at these medical centres, setting up the nursing school has become inevitable.
Further confiding that plans are afoot to utilise services of over 30 doctors, on contract basis, by the State's health Department, the Minister said taking into account problems related to movement (travel) of medical personnel to medical centres located in hill areas, emphasis during the recruitment would be given to qualified doctors from among Scheduled Caste candidates.
Stating that motto of the State Government is on prevention rather than curing diseases, Parijat further desired that people residing at far-off places be made aware of existence and purpose of PHSCs.
The also conveyed to the gathering that the Chief Minister is keen to ensure all-round development in the state, for which Ministers concerned have been advised to monitor implementation and functioning of welfare schemes, including in the health sector.
In connection with the Parents' Day programme, a free medical camp was also organised at the function venue, during which locals were medically examined and medicines distributed free of cost, in addition to handing over about 300 chemically treated mosquito nets to check spread of malarial infection.
MLA Dr Khasim Ruivah, who was also at the function, drew the attention of the Medical Minister on the need to upgrade the Kachai PHSC to PHC in accordance with the growing population of the area.
Dr ruivah also stressed on the need for constant consultation among MLAs elected from Ukhrul district ACs so as to accelerate pace of development.
Dr Ruivah also donated plastic chairs for use by Kachai villagers during community functions.
Prior to attending the Parents' Meet, Minister Parijat also inspected progress of work for construction of the 50-bedded hospital at Hundung apart from personally assessing functioning of the Kachai PHSC.
