To get a first hand account of the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the State, Director of the Ministry of Rural Development, under which the NREGS, Nitin Chandra is scheduled to arrive here on September 24 .
This was stated by the DC of Bishnupur Aleng AS Shimray during job card distribution function to the people of Torbung Gram Panchayat under Kumbi AC yesterday.
The DC who attended the function as guest of honour said that Nitin Chandra will be here till September 28 during which he will personally over see the implementation of the said scheme.
The IAS officer will also visit Bishnupur district.
The job card is the license given to the people enabling them to work under the NREGS, said the DC and added that one mate each is provided for 50 such selected people.
The chosen mates for the district will be given training September 20 and 21 at the district headquarters.
If anyone is absent for the training then action would be taken up, added the DC.
Kumbi AC MLA and Chairman of MANIDCO N Mangi said that many works can be taken up under the NREGS.
However care should be taken to ensure that the works are taken up in such a way that they will have long term benefits for the people.
Works which are eco-friendly should be encouraged, he added.
Stating that the Government of India has taken up a number of schemes for the people, the MLA urged the people to work sincerely so that maximum benefits are derived from such schemes.
The Adhakshya of Bishnupur district Ksh Sorojini attended the function as president.
