Bridge breaks down : A bailey bridge located along Imphal-Jiribam road, just about 12 kms from Jiribam in between Lhangnom and Leingangpokpi snapped in the middle last night.
Following the break down, all goods carriers on both sides of the highway have been stranded.
Yet, passengers can cross over to the opposite sides on foot.
Since earlier, the BRTF had notified all goods carriers with loads of more than 10 tonnes not to cross over the bridge.
Nevertheless, it is reported that some cement laden trucks crossed over the bridge last evening.
This might have caused the bridge to snap yesterday, said sources.
It may take some time to restore the broken bridge, it added.
