Giving a boost to the ongoing campaign against drug abuse and trafficking in the State, spiritual leaders and scholars of Muslim community have pledged to contribute their mite in fighting against the menace.
This was disclosed by president of All Manipur Muslim Development Organisation (AMMDO) Hazrat Moulana Abdul Azad Inqrilabi during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today.
Many Muslim spiritual leaders were also present at the press conference.
Reading out the resolutions adopted during a joint meeting of the representatives of 11 prominent organisations of the Muslim community and Madrassa on January 3 at AMMDO office, Hazrat Moulana said consumption of liquor, ganja, cocaine, heroin and other substances are considered Haram in Muslim community.
Yet abuse and trafficking of drugs has been on the rise among the people of Muslim society in Manipur today.
Drug related crimes are also taking place in Muslim society almost on daily basis, he said, while expressing apprehension that the day would not be far when the Muslim society would be wiped out completely if the situation remains this way.
So taking note of the serious of the matter, spiritual leaders and scholars of Muslim community have decided to join in the ongoing fight against drug menace in the society, he informed.
Secretary of Jamaitul-Ulam, Manipur Hazrat Moulana Sahed who also addressed the conference pledged that Muslim spiritual leaders would try their level best in bringing back the misguided Muslims on the right path.
Along with setting up rehabilitation centres to take care of the socio-medical problem of the Muslim communities, mass campaign including joint Namaz session would be would be launched in every Mohalla under the supervision of local leaders concerned, he added.
Meanwhile, Manipuri Muslim Women's wing AMADA has been set up today during a function at AMADA Mayai Loisang with the main objective of fighting against the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in Muslim society.
Secretary general of Organisation for Development Nazima and vice president of AMADA Mayai Loishang M Padmani Leima were chief guest and president of the function which was also attended by social workers Jahira and Jariphool as guests of honour.
