The role of advocates will remain unchanged even if the society changes with times, said former member of Manipur Human Right Commission and advocate Kh Chonjohn Singh while speaking on the inaugural of function of a one day State level seminar on the ' Role of Advocates and protection of citizens'.

Chonjohn was speaking as the chief guest of the function organised by Manipur Legal Aid Organisation (MALAO) in Imphal.
He opined that every advocate should guard his/her ethics by not indulging in corruption.
Money, he said will automatically follow with one's good work.
On the ongoing legal awareness campaign, the advocate pointed out that several lawyers have been giving social awareness about their rights.
"Advocates' role in the public life has become more essential with the deteriorating law and order problems and sometimes the people try to take law into their own hands when police fails", he added.
Citing the fundamental rights, he said every citizen has the rights to highlight their grievances under various Acts including the Domestic Violence Act.
Senior Advocate, Lalit Kumar former vice chairman of North East Bar Council who spoke on the occasion as the function's president mentioned about the rights of citizen under Article 14, 20, 21, and 22 of the Constitution.
On the question of arrest memo, he said that under CrPC 356, if a police personnel arrests any citizen without any ground, the personnel should face fine or imprisonment.
While pointing out the present state of worsening crimes in Manipur, he said that killing incidents are on the rise and cases of arrest, detention, torture, rape etc.keep happening unabated.
It's high time to have a serious discussion on the matter, said the senior Advocate.
The seminar has an interaction session with the participants.
