More than 150 artistes belonging to different ethnic groups of the State came up on a single stage today in the first Radio��Folk, Choir and Light Music Festival at the auditorium of the JN Manipur Dance Academy.
The inaugural function of the festival organised under the theme, "Peace, Unity and Development" was graced by MP Dr T Meinya as chief guest, noted film-maker Aribam Syam and AIR deputy director C Lalrosnga as guests of honour.

During the festival, folk songs and traditional dances of different ethnic groups were presented alongside choir and modern songs.
Besides the audience gathered in the auditorium, the festival was telecast live on both Kangla and Sangai channel of AIR Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Dr T Meinya rejoiced at seeing artistes of different ethnic groups performing together on the same stage in line with the theme of the festival.
Dismissing the difference of ethnicity, community and religion, Dr Meinya said that god created only two groups of peoplemen and women.Just as all human societies are constituted by men and women, the people of the State, setting aside all differences of ethnicity and religion, ought to build up unity and integrity so as to bring peace and development in Manipur, noted the MP.
Addressing the gathering, Aribam Syam recalled that his music career started with recording six songs when AIR Imphal was attached to Guwahati.
C Lalrosnga hailed the role of AIR Imphal in entertaining the public and towards restoration of peace in the State.
He also sought people's cooperation towards AIR Imphal.In addition to performances by cultural troupes of Thadou, Hmar, Paite, Mao, Kabui and Tangkhul groups, folk artistes presented Khullang Eshei, Pena, Khongjom Parva.
