Demanding among others, payment of the last 10 months' pending wages/honorarium of the workers under Mid-Day Meal Scheme, members of All Manipur Mid-Day Meal Workers' Union today staged a Wakat Meepham at Keishampat Junction here.
The agitating workers have also warned of taking recourse to various intense agitation if the pending wages/honorarium were not paid before the up-coming Ningol Chakkouba.
Other demands raised by the aggrieved workers include involvement of the Mid-Day Meal workers at the time of opening joint account in the bank by the respective school management development committee or disbursal of the wages through the respective DDOs of the Zonal Education Officers, to ensure regular payment of the wages, regularisation of the Mid-Day Meal workers, construction of kitchen in each school, regular supply of the ration items meant for the school children and to stop supplying of such ration items to private individuals or organisation.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, general secretary of All Manipur Mid-Day Meal Workers' Union H Tiken Sharma warned that Government offices in every zone would be closed down if the pending wages for the last 10 months were not cleared before the upcoming Ningol Chakkouba.
