Imphal, October 09 2009:
Apparently referring to the Cabinet to appoint Primary Teachers under Autonomous District Councils, the Educated Unemployed Youth Association (EUYA) has appealed to the Hill Areas Committee Chairman to make the recruitment purely on merit basis.
In a memorandum submitted to the Hill Areas Committee Chairman, the EUYA asserted that the practice of bribery, nepotism and favouritism during recruitment of teachers were responsible for the deteriorating condition of education in hill districts.
Highlighting the importance of primary education, the association pointed out that there were many youth well qualified to be primary teachers.
Calling upon the authority concerned to put an end to the practice of making appointments only through bribery, it cautioned that the association would be compelled to take recourse to unwanted activities in the event of exercising any unfair means during the recruitment of Primary Teachers.
The Government should bear responsibility for any consequences arising thereof, it added.
