Though the State Government had launched many schemes/ projects to ensure quality education for all students, Chingmei Upper Primary School which is located at Channa Chingmei Awang Leikai under Thanga Assembly Constituency is still lacking even the basic infrastructure today.
Chingmei Upper Primary School was established in 1954 and upgraded to the level of Primary School in 2017 .
After lying idle for many years without any students till 2002, the school witnessed slight improvement after one Ningthoujam Binoy was appointed as Head Master and started providing education to the local students at his best capacity, providing all the facilities available in a private school.

Despite all the efforts put up by one individual, the State Government has not extended any help to better the condition of the school in any form. The school has only 5 classrooms in a dilapidated condition and one of it was severely damaged by an earthquake.
Apart from not having a proper and sufficient classroom, the school also lacks an Administrative Block, proper toilet facilities and non-teaching staff.
As per the norm, every primary school should have at least 14 teachers, but Chingmei Upper Primary School has only 3 teachers.Even with the lack of support from Government side, the school management committee and the Head Master hired 7 additional teachers by paying an honorarium of Rs 3,000 per month from their pockets to ensure that the students are not affected by the lack of teachers.
Speaking to this newsperson, N Binoy said that altogether 183 students have been enrolled to the school since he was appointed as the Headmaster.
Stating that he had spent money from his own pocket on numerous occasion to keep the school running, the Head Master continued that he had provided all the required money for this year student's uniform even before the State Government issued an order regarding school uniform.
Though the State Government assured to reimburse the amount, the money is yet to be received, he said.
Continuing that he had approached the local MLA and authorities concerned many times regarding the dilapidated condition of school infrastructure and lack of staff, he maintained that no positive response has been received from them so far.
He then urged the State Government and authorities concerned to take up necessary measures to improve the condition of the school so as to ensure quality education for the students in the remote village.
