Thousands still face flood woes

As huge volumes of water gushing out from Imphal River after a portion of its embankment breached at Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai still remains collected at Ngangou paddy fields, thousands of people are still facing the woes of flood .
Speaking to media persons this afternoon at the spot where the river embankment breached, Haoreibi Awang Leikai Athletic Youth Organisation secretary and Flood Relief Committee spokesman Yumkhaibam Islamuddin said that many villages stretching over 12 Kms are still enduring the plight of flood as huge volumes of water remain collected at Ngangou paddy fields .
While the Government has not taken up any initiative to pump out water from Ngangou paddy fields, there are reports about outbreak of several diseases.
With the Ngangou PHC already flooded, people have no access to health care facilities, Islamuddin said .
There is also no electricity as the local transformer got fused some days back .
As the villagers struggled for four days to mend the breached embankment, the Government did not send any official nor did it provide any assistance .
However, Y Antas Khan who fought the last Assembly election in Lilong AC provided a few machinery .
Later Chief Minister N Biren and Works Minister Th Biswajit inspected the flood affected areas directly and assured all possible assistance .
Even though it has been more than 20 days since the river embankment breached, the breached portion has not been properly restored, Islamuddin said .
He then sought immediate attention of the State Government to mitigate the woes of flood affected people.
