Imphal, September 18 2014:
The All India Trade Union Council (AITUC) Manipur unit has asserted that the bomb blast at a hardware store in Viewland, Ukhrul in which two civilians were killed and two others injured was a glaring indication of the incumbent Congress Government's failure to maintain law and order.
Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan today, AITUC Manipur unit president L Sotinkumar said that CPI Manipur State Council strongly condemned the bomb attack and shared the grief and loss suffered by the bereaved families of the deceased victims.
Expressing serious concern over the prevailing law and order situation in Ukhrul district, Sotinkumar said that the bomb blast which claimed the lives of two civilians took place due to the Government's failure to maintain law and order.
The recent decision of the State Government to withdraw State forces from Ukhrul district headquarters on the ground that law and order situation had improved was misplaced.
Adequate strength of security forces should be deployed in Ukhrul town for effective maintenance of law and order, he declared.
It appeared that the Government toed the line of a certain organisation which demanded withdrawal of State security forces from Ukhrul.
In spite of being fully aware that the cease fire agreement between Government of India and NSCN-IM does not cover Manipur, the outfit has been churning out layers and layers of propaganda claiming that the ceasefire is effective in Manipur too, apart from committing all kinds of violent and unlawful activities on the soil of Manipur.
In addition to challenging the territorial integrity of Manipur, the outfit has been breeding serious law and order problems in the State, Sotinkumar said.
By indulging in incessant extortion along Imphal-Dimapur highway, Imphal-Jiribam highway and Imphal-Moreh highway, the outfit has been keeping all the people of Manipur under a miserable state, Sotinkumar added.
