Imphal, April 15 2012:
Ahead of the 32nd Realisation Day observance of All Manipur Students' Union on April 17, the student organisation has declared that an intense campaign would be launched against recruitment of non-local candidates in Government-run educational institutions.
Speaking to news-persons at its head office today, AMSU general secretary N Dipanjit informed that with the exception of a mass rally, this year's observance of Realisation Day will include offering of floral tributes at the Pishum Ching memorial site from 9 am followed by a public meeting at the nearby Pishum Lampak.
As usual blood donation camps will also be organised to commemorate the Day, said the AMSU functionary while conveying that class mobilisation campaigns will be a new addition of the observance.
Further stating that street corner meetings and awareness campaigns highlighting threat posed to the indigenous population consequent to continuous influx of outsiders are already underway, Dipanjit alleged lack of commitment and incompetency of the Government for unrestrained entry of outsiders into Manipur.
Citing land ownership, right to vote and contesting elections by non-locals as glaring instances of the indigenous population facing threat of marginalisation in their own land, he claimed that some non local candidates were recently recruited as teachers for SSA and RMSA schemes.
Maintaining that these candidates managed to get the teacher's job due to the Government classifying some non-local communities as OBCs, Dipanjit accused the Government of betraying an agreement signed with the AMSU in the 1980s and again in 1994 for restricting entries of non-locals into Manipur.
While highlighting that State Governments in some of the North Eastern States have already framed relevant legislation to strictly prohibit non-locals in their respective States, Dipanjit strongly deplored indifferent attitude of the Government of Manipur on the sensitive issue.
He, nevertheless, pledged that AMSU will take all possible measures to protect the indigenous people of Manipur from further dilution.
