RIMS set to celebrate 39th anniversary today

Completing 39 years of service not only in the field of medical treatment but also in grooming medical professionals, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is all set to celebrate its anniversary tomorrow.
Established in 1972 as Regional Medical College, the premier medical institute was later on renamed as Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) .
Talking to mediapersons in his office chamber today, one day ahead of the 36th foundation day celebration, Director of RIMS Prof S Sekharjit informed that in addition to MBBS courses, one can now avail the facilities to study Superspecialist courses in RIMS.
The number of MBBS seats in RIMS has also been increased from 50 to 100, and from next year, the MBBS seats would be increased to 150, the Director disclosed.
Moreover, 23 different subjects are now being offered at Post-graduation level attracting many good students from outside Manipur, the Director added.

Sekharjit further said that with an eye on upgrading RIMS to the status of a Deemed University, a Nursing College has already been set up and Manipur University has given its approval for affiliation in this regard.
From next year, a Dental College would be made functional and necessary construction works in this regard are underway.
In the domain of medical treatment too, new and sophisticated CT scan machine, X-ray and ECG machines have been installed in all the wards of the hospital right from casualty ward onward.
So, there is no need to go outside the hospital to undergo such tests any more, Prof Sekharjit observed.
Plans are also afoot for constructing a new OPD complex and the improved ICU has been made operational, the Director disclosed, adding that conduct of routine operation which had remained suspended on account of shortage of Oxygen following prolonged imposition of economic blockade along the National Highways too has been resumed in RIMS.
