PREPAK greets on Intl Human Rights Day

Imphal, December 09 2015: People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) has greeted the people of the State on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.

In a statement, publicity and propaganda assistant secretary of the outfit, Leibak Ngakpa Luwang said that Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10 .

It commemorates the day on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, he said.

Leibak Ngakpa said that people, who aspire to become a developed Nation, have been seeking human rights since time immemorial.

However, certain privileged groups/Nations have been suppressing these aspirations for their own benefits in different parts of the world, alleged the outfit.

As such, after tolerating the suppression for hundreds of years, these aspirations to get hold of human rights erupted like a volcano in many countries centuries ago, Leibak Ngakpa said.

After experiencing a revolt that lasted many years, the people of United States got independence from the rule of UK in 1776 .

Likewise, people of France rose against the oppressions of the then cruel Government in 1789, he said.

After a century and a half of the French Revolution, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948 .

The declaration envisioned to safeguard the dignity of every section of the people and entitle human rights to every human being and end all forms of deprivation, suppressi ons and oppressions, he said.

On the other hand, people of WESEA are still suffering as some countries are still imposing dictatorial laws on them, further said the outfit.

Although, India has a Government based on democratic principles, it has been imposing draconian laws like AFSPA in Jammu and Kashmir and WESEA, Leibak Ngakpa alleged.

He alleged that Indian security forces are even carrying out genocides under the cover of AFSPA in the region.

Saying that numerous cases of extrajudicial killings are still pending in the Court, Leibak Ngakpa said that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Amnesty International have exposed these cases to the world recently.

Maintaining that International Human Rights Day has been serving as a guiding light to the people who are reeling hardships of colonialism, Leibak Ngakpa said that the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution number 1514 (XV), known as the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples on December 14, 1960 .

Although, the declaration granted the people to have its own Government and formulate and enforce economic and cultural policies on its own, the Government of India is yet to grant these privileges to the people of the State as it has failed to abide by the points laid down in the declaration, he said.

On the otherhand, the Government of India has been enforcing meticulously planned divisive policies among the people of different communities secretly as well as openly, Leibak Ngakpa alleged.

Due to this constant effort of the Government of India, the unity and communal harmony in the State are on the verge of falling apart beyond repair, he said.

Leibak Ngakpa said that on International Human Rights, every community and group must realise that the aspiration of the people would not be achieved if they remain divided.
