Sit-in-protests were staged at different localities today demanding immediate and safe release of the seven persons, including four engineers, who were abducted from an Imphal East district area on August 1 .
Four engineers, two drivers and a contractor were abducted by unknown miscreants on their return journey from Dolaithabi barrage.
They had been to the work site to inspect progress of construction of the barrage.
Demanding immediate release of the seven persons, a sit-in-protest was staged at the locality of driver Lourembam Saratchandra at Lalambung Hourungbam Leikai.
Saratchan-dra's wife Memcha also took part in the protest jointly orga- nised by Progressive Youth Organisation, Lalambung Ma-khong Apunba Nupi Lup, Khwai Lalambung Nisha Bandh meira Paibee Lup and other organisations.
Urging the group concerned, if any, to free all the abducted persons at the earliest, the protestors appealed to all armed groups not to demand ransom by abducting innocent people and officials.
Similar sit-in-protests were also staged at Uripok Polem Leikai, Uripok Sorbol Thingel, Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and Naharup Pangong Makhong in connection with the incident.
