Governor Dr SS Sidhu and Chief Minister O Ibobi have greeted the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Ningol Chakkouba.
Extending his best wishes the Governor said that this festival reaffirms the bond between brothers and sisters.
The Chief Minister in his message stated that Ningol Chakkouba now encompasses several communities and tribes thereby reinforcing unity amidst diversity in the State.
Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has also extended its best wishes on the eve of Ningol Chakkouba and Id adding that MUSU would be celebrating Ningol Chakkouba by organising a grand feast of "sisters" and "mothers" belonging to various communities.
Major General GG Dwivedi, Major General BS Ghotra and all ranks of Red Shield Division and IGAR (South) have also extended their warm greetings and good wishes to all the sisters and brothers of Manipur, said a PIB (Defence Wing) statement.
The strong bond of love between brothers and sisters, has existed since time immemorial, and it can be a strong force to usher in peace and tranquility in the State, the statement added.
With the people ready to celebrate one of the biggest festivals of the State, thousands of shoppers thronged the main markets of Imphal today.
The fish mela attracted a large number of people eyeing to get the best bargain for tomorrow's fest.
