Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has stated that developmental activities in the State has taken a back seat as the people do no pay their taxes in time.
Taking this into account, the State Government has set up a Special Dedicated Force to assist in recovering outstanding electricity bills from the consumers.
Speaking at the inauguration of a market complex at Khumbong Bazar today, Ibobi said for the success of any developmental work being taken up by the Government, the assistance and co-operation of the people is essential.
There can be development in the State only when every section of the society discharged their duties with sincerely and dedication.
Reiterating that the Government has to divert a huge amount of fund meant for taking up developmental works in coughing up for paying of power tariff to the power corporations concerned as the consumers do not clear their pending bills, the Chief Minister fervently appealed to the people to pay off their taxes in time.
Enumerating on other developmental works to be taken up by the Government for the people of Khumbong area, the Chief Minister assured that the existing Primary health Centre would be upgraded to Community Health Centre very soon.
He further promised to construct a toilet complex having separate facilities for Gents and Ladies inside the newly inaugurated market complex.
In view of the proposal for expansion of National Highway 53 which run through Khumbong Bazar, the Chief Minister appealed to shopkeepers and general public residing along the road to leave out atleast 175 feet on either side so that they would not be affected.
Emphasising on the need to preserve the Sana Konung (Royal Palace), which is pointed out is the symbol of an erstwhile independent Kingdom of Manipur, the Chief Minister further appealed to all the people for co-operation and support in this endeavour.
An amount of Rs 6 crores has been kept aside for renovation and preservation of the Palace, he added.
Lok Sabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya presided over the function attended by Ex-Minister Heikrujam Thoithoi Singh and MLA Dr Sapam Budhichandra Singh as guests of honour.
Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West District Y Surchandra was also present during the function which was organised under the aegis of DRDA, Imphal West.
