Imphal, November 02:
Following the allegations of the proscribed UNLF that some jail employees including an officer are involved in aiding KCP (P) leader Th Nando, who is currently in jail, the jail authorities have decided to probe the matter and ascertain the facts.
Yesterday, the outfit paraded the Additional SP of Sajiwa jail, Phanitphang Tangkhul and a couple before the media and accused them of passing on extorted money to Nando inside the jail.
The three were also accused of negotiating on behalf of the KCP (P) while serving demand notices.
Before the media, the couple, Wayengbam Ingocha and his wife Sana Devi admitted to the charges of the outfit.
The Additional SP also confessed that he passed on the extorted money to Th Nando.
When The Sangai Express contacted the IG of Prisons, PM Goud, the officer assured that fitting action would be taken up if any jail employees are found involved in the case.
"I came to know about the case only through the newspapers today," said the police officer.
To get to the bottom of the matter and establish the facts, an inquiry would instituted by the jail authorities, said the IG and added that the probe may start from Monday.
Since there is series of festivals, such as Diwali, Ningol Chakkouba and Idul-Fitre, the probe cannot be instituted right away, he explained.
The head and members of the inquiry panel would be decided on the day the probe starts, said PM Goud and added, "As of now I cannot comment on the matter further and everything will be known once the inquiry panel submits its report." The three accused were set free by the UNLF after a stern warning to mend their ways.
Th Nando who is currently in jail is a prime accused in the kidnapping and later murder of Lungnila Elizabeth.
Another accused Rome is also in jail.
Recently the two underwent psychoanalysis and brain finger tests at the Forensic Science Laboratory, Gandhinagar.
