Along with paying befitting tributes, the 79th death anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonnang who was hanged to death by the British Government on alleged charge of waging war against the British crown was observed all over the State today.
The main observance function was organised under the aegis of Haipou Jadonnang Statue and Park Development Committee, Manipur at GM Hall here.
Prior to the GM Hall function, public offered floral tributes and sacred wine at the statue of Haipou Jadonnang installed at the memorial park at Keishampat.

Attended by IFC Minister N Biren as chief guest and PDA chairman Dr Kh Loken as president, the observance function commenced amid rendering of songs eulogising the patriotism of Haipou Jadonnang.
MLA M Prithiviraj, who is also the president of Youth Congress Committee, Manipur and Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Thokchom Lokeshore were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
As part of the function, the congregation observed two minutes silence as mark of respect to the departed soul of Haipou Jadonnang and prayed for peaceful repose of the soul in its heavenly abode.
Born in 1905 at Puilon (Kambiron) Kabui village situated along Imphal-Cachar Road, Haipou Jadonnang was hanged to death by the British Government on August 29, 1931 .
Though Jadonnang did not have opportunity for education, he thoroughly understood the oppressive policies of the British Government and revolted against such policies.
On account of this, he was arrested by the British and hanged to death after framing false charges against him.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Minister Biren described Haipou Jadonnang as a political philosopher and social thinker and pointed out that the underlining meaning of observing death anniversary of Jadonnang is the fact that Manipuri society today needs patriotic leaders like him who can sacrifice their lives for the welfare of the State and its people.
Hailing Jadonnang as a brave and pioneering leader, the Minister further said that 'all of us should get some inspiration from what Jadonnang had accomplished during his short life span of just 26 years.
It would be unfair to forget the contribution and sacrificial spirit of leaders like Jadonnang by the present generation'.
In his presidential address, Dr Loken observed that the message of Haipou Jadonnang should be analysed and understood and the present generation should work towards realising the dream that Haipou Jadonnang had dreamt for the Manipuri society.
The death anniversary of Haipou Jadonnang was also observed under the aegis of All Zeliangrong Arts and Culture Organisation, Manipur at Toubul Kabui village in Bishnupur district.
MLA of Oinam A/C Dr I Ibohalbi and president of All Zeliangrong Arts and Cultural Organisation, Manipur Poudongai Kamson and Khullakpa of Toubul Kabui village Ningthouka Kamei attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The dignitaries led all those who were present at the occasion in offering floral tributes to the photograph of Haipou Jadonnang.
All Communities United Front also observed the 79th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonnang at Ideal Club, Tera and paid befitting tributes to the departed freedom fighter.
Our Jiribam correspondent adds: The 79th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonnang was observed at Lungreizang village in Jiribam today.
The observance function was organised by Zeliangrong Students' Union, Barak Valley.
Apart from paying floral tributes to the portrait of Jadonnang, traditional dances and speeches delivered by resource persons on the life and history of the late patriot marked the observance.
The death anniversary of Haipou Jadonnang was also observed at his native village Kambiron village in Tamenglong district.
Organised under the aegis of Haipou Jadonnang Culture and Research Committee, the main highlights of the observance include offering of floral tributes to Jadonnang, youth parade, traditional songs and dances and speeches by resource persons.
