Many voluntary organizations in Manipur have today demanded the resignation of Governor Ved Marwah and his advisors, Rammohan and Kipgen on moral ground as the State administration was responsible for the yesterday's police action in which one died and over a hundred injured when thousands of students came to surrender their books to the Governor against the cease-fire extension to the State.
The students of the Central Agricultural University, Iroisemba in a meeting today strongly condemned the police, especially the CRPF for killing one more person and injuring many other students by live ammunition besides rubber bullets and teargas shells.
The meeting con doled the death by observing a two minute silence and decided to support the UCM in its movement against the truce.
Demanding the resignation of Governor Marwah and his two advisors, the United Voluntary Orgn, Canchipur has expressed suspicion if the trio are working in favor of cease-fire extension.
None of them have so far aired their views on the issue unlike the Governor of Assam.
The Chief Ministers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have already opposed the Centre's decision.
The All Manipur Govt Hr Sec Lecturers' Welfare Association, Imphal has also condemned the police for firing upon the students.
"It would be better for the Governor to leave the State", it stated reacting against the Centre for trying to cause a communal war in Manipur.
A team of the teachers' body led by its general secretary visited the injured students today.
A teacher, Dr K Manibabu, who is an executive member of the association today, donated blood at RIMS hospital, a release stated.
The Manipur State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI), All Manipur Nupi Marup, Progressive People's Union, the Manipur State Territorial Safe Guard Committee, Lamboikhong-nangkhong, Uripok Kangchup Road, Students' Federation of India (SFI), the Ayangpalli Progressive Women's Orgn.
(APWO), Imphal, All Manipur Democratic Women Association, (AMDWA), All Manipur Young Pioneers' Orgn., the United People's Action Committee (UPAC) and the Katiginong Youth Welfare Club, Kangmong have condemned the State administration and CRPF for yesterday's incident.
