Claiming that unavailability of sufficient water for irrigation due to quarrying at Thongjaorok river has lowered theproduction of agricultural produces by nearly 50% at Khoijuman, Toubul and Kwasiphai of Oinam and BishnupurKendras, members of Khoijuman Mamang Farmers Organisation and Toubul Phouoibi Farmers Club appealed the State Government and concerned authority to look in the matter at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons, one local farmer stated that Thongjaorok river used to provide sufficient water for growing paddy three times a year in the past but continuous unchecked quarrying had severe impact on the river and has failed to provide water at the same level.
