After many parts of Moirang, Oinam, Nambol and Ningthoukhong Assembly Constituencies in Bishnupur district have been submerged in flood water following incessant rains over the last few days, water spilling out from Loktak lake and other already flooded areas have started flooding vast tract of paddy fields and fish farms in and around Thanga Assembly Constituency.
Talking to some mediapersons today, MLA of Thanga Assembly Constituency T Mangibabu informed that overflowing flood water from already flooded areas of the district have started flowing into low lying areas of Thanga covering paddy fields and fish farms.
According to the MLA, some of the places where flood water have caused havoc to the people include Khordak, Nongmaikhong, Keibul Lamjao, Chingmei Maton, Keirenphabi Mamang and Thangalawai Mamang.
In view of the situation, the MLA has drawn the attention of the State Government to lift the sluice gate of the Ithai Barrage and to take up necessary measures for the farmers before it is too late.
