Police commandos have apprehended five activists of the KCP-MC (Lamyanba group) and KYKL organisations while an alleged arms smuggler has also been netted in separate operations carried out today.
Five cadres, including a female member of the KCP-MC (Lamyanba group) were rounded up by commandos of Imphal East district police from different places this morning and 13 extortion notes seized from them in addition to hauling up the arms trader.
parading the arrested individuals along with the seized items this afternoon at the Porompat office of Imphal East district police headquarters, Officer in-charge (Cdo) Manihar asserted that the KCP (MC) cadres are actively involved in intimidating and serving extortion notes on businessmen and Government officials staying in and around Imphal areas.
During the media briefing the commando OC also disclosed that self styled commander-in-chief of the KCP (MC) namely Laishram Ranjit alias Tamnganba alias Lamyanba (35) s/o L Achouba of yurembam Awang Leikai is an Army deserter against whom an intensive investigation is on.
The arrested female member of the banned outfit has been identified as Salam Sunita (36) w/o Hero of Thanga Heisnam Leikai but was staying at Langol Type II , from whom five of the demand notes were recovered.
Those rounded up along with Sunita includes Naorem Anand alias Raj (21) s/o Delen and naorem Arun (18) both from Moidangpok Mayai Leikai and apprehended by a frisking party from Palace Gate area while travelling on a Maruti Car at around 10 am.
Interrogation of the trio is said to have led to the arrest of two more KCP men from near Porompat Dairy Farm about an hour later.
The two are identified as yumnam Sanjit (21) s/o Nandakesho of heinoubok and Khamnam Basanta (36) s/o Tharojao of Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai.
The amount these KCP cadres were about to serve ranges from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 50 lakh, the OC maintained.
On the otherhand, the arrested arms-ammunition smuggler/supplier of UG groups has been identified as Thingom Joychandra alias Joy alias Joysingh (32) s/o Sarat of Khurai Chaithabi Leirak with the OC informing that he was nabbed from his own home at around 10.45 am after receiving specific intelligence report.
Besides 10 round of AK series ammunition, the commando team also recovered 48 rounds of .303 rifle from Joychandra's possession, the OC added.
meanwhile, SSP (Imphal West) in a statement issued today informed of the district police commandos arresting three KYKL activists from North AOC bus stand at around 11.20 am today.
Stating that the arrests were made after receiving specific information, the SSP L Kailun's release identified the trio as Wairakpam Nitish Singh alias Ibungo alias Yoiheiba Luwang (29) s/o W Birkumar Singh of Wabagai Mayai leikai, Oinam Chanchan Devi alias Mona (22) d/o O Shubash Singh of Uripok Khoisnam Leikai and Laishram Bina Devi alias Diana (23) s/o L Ibobi Singh of Langol near Shija Hospital.
Interrogation of the S/S 2nd Lt (Army No 02905) W Nitish Singh led to revelation of working as an overground member of the KYKL since 1999 before joining the armed group and working under the command of one S/S Major Wangba (Operation New Kangleipak), the SSP maintained and quoted the captive as saying that he (Nitish) was in-charge of KYKL organisation and administration.
