Lieutenant General Jitendra Singh Verma, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Kolkata visited Nagaland and Manipur on Jan 7 and 8.The Army Commander accompanied by Lt Gen Rajinder Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC 3 Crops and Maj Gen Mandhata Singh, GOC 57 Mountain Division visited Somsai (Ukhrul), Imphal and Leimakhong today.
The General was briefed by Brigadier V Suresh Nair Commander 10 Sector at Somsai, Brigadier EJ Kochekkan, Commander 9 Sector at Imphal and Brigadier VK Batura, Commander 59 Mountain Brigade at Leimakhong about security situation in the areas.
The Lt General also interacted with Governor Ved Marwah.
Media persons who were invited for covering the visit of the General, staged a walkout in protest of the refusal to allow the journalists to interact with the visiting General.
The General accompanied by Lt Gen Rajinder Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC 3 Crops arrived at Zakhama helipad from Tuensang yesterday and was received by Maj Gen DP Merchant, IG Assam Rifles (North) who briefed him on the prevailing situation in Nagaland.
