Imphal, June 05 2012:
Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) has informed that the live viewing programme of Transit of Venus, at GP Women's College on June 6, would not be cancelled even in cloudy condition since they would arrange the viewing via webcast, said a statement of MASTEC.
The Council has asked of those who have procured Solar Viewer from MASTEC to view only the projection of the solar disk and not attempt to observe any phase of the transit with the naked eyes.
Further, it has been advised not to look at the transit directly through a telescope or a binocular but to "project the image of the Sun on a shaded wall through a pinhole, telescope or a pair of binoculars".
Direct viewing of the phenomenon is to be done with the use of scientifically certified solar filters, said the statement.
The Council has strictly advised against looking at the sun continuously even with the solar filters; this should be viewed intermittently for few seconds.
