Imphal, June 03 2012:
Reacting to the news item which appeared in the June 3 edition of this paper under the caption, 'Residents urged to vacate', the Hongbei Village Authority has dubbed the notification issued by the headman of Chongdan village as baseless.
In a statement, the secretary of Hongbei Village, Ukhrul district, K Thotreiso said that the headman of Chongdan village himself agreed to the establishment of Hongbei village at the annual panchayat on December 29, 1999.Hongbei village (Chongdan Lamkhai) does not come under the jurisdiction of Chongdan village, asserted the statement.
Giving a history of the tussle, the statement said that the case was referred to the Wung Tangkhul Region of the NSCN (IM), but the outfit referred the case to Tangkhul Aze Longphang (Southern Tangkhul Organisation) .
After a series of surveys, inquiries and fact findings, for years, the Court gave the settlement rights to Hongbei on June 17, 2011, said the statement and added that the fellowship Church was also recognised by Southern Tangkhul Naga Association on March 11, 2012 .
However the Tangkhul Naga Long Karot has rekindled the issue with the chief judge issuing an unofficial verdict in favour of Chongdan, said the statement and added that the verdict was signed only by the chief judge without consulting the former organisations.
The Hongbei Village authority has appealed to the Tangkhul Naga Long to set the matter right.
