AR thwarts liquor smuggling bid

Imphal, December 26 2023:
Assam Rifles of IGAR (South), reportedly thwarted attempt to smuggle illicit foreign liquor in Kamjong district on Sunday.
A statement issued by PRO IGAR (South) informed that around 09:30 am Sunday, a routine check established by the column of Wanglee post led to the interception of a suspicious truck in motion from Namlee market.
Upon closer inspection, scrutiny of documents, and questioning, it was revealed that the truck was illicitly transporting numerous boxes of liquor from across the India-Myanmar border.
The unauthorised liquor consignment was intended to be smuggled through Namlee to Ukhrul and further towards Nagaland for black marketing.
The operation resulted in the seizure of a total of 4,996 bottles of various liquor brands with an estimated value of approximately Rs 33.77 lakh.
The seized items, along with individuals involved, were promptly handed over to officials of Customs department in Imphal for further investigation.
