State level training programme on beekeeping kicks off

A 7-day State level Basic Training Programme on Beekeeping kicked off today at Mahousa complex, Oinam Sawombung in Thoubal district.
The training programme is organized by Manipur Beekeeping and Honey Mission (MBHM), Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur under the sponsorship of National Bee Board under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
The inaugural programme was graced by Zakir Hussain, Mission Director, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur; Subhra Hanjabam, Meira Foods proprietor; Naorem Arundayenti, Tanglei Foods proprietor and Roshan Laishram, Branch Manager, Manipur Rural Bank, Hiyangthang branch as the presidium members.
Speaking as the chief guest, Zakir Hussain highlighted the importance of beekeeping and its multiple benefits.
Talking about its medicinal properties, he said that honey forms an important in various medicines composition and is of great use to us.
Apart from the above, honeybees act as a great pollinator among the living beings thereby increasing the production to a large extent, he said.
Stating that there is a high demand for honey, he stressed on the need for taking up beekeeping for a sustainable income and progressive society and appealed to all to promote beekeeping in the larger interest of the society.
